The Rocca d’Anfo – a unique fortress

www.roccadanfo.eu

The Rocca d’Anfo fortress is located on the western shore above the village of Anfo. Here it towers majestically and unmistakably above the Lago d’Idro. The fortress, which is now open to tourism, has a very long history.

The castle complex was built in the 15th century and served not only as a guard post on the northern border of today’s Trentino, but also as a defensive structure for the transport and smuggling routes running along the lake.

Even Napoleon had to plan several reconstructions and adapt the castle complex.

During the First World War, the fortress was used for many years as a warehouse and ammunition depot. After the World Wars, it stood unused for many years and fell into disrepair.

From around 2010 onwards, extensive renovation and construction work began, in which the province of Brescia and the region of Lombardy participated.

For some years now, the Rocca d’Anfo, one of the most important landmarks of Lake Idro, has been available for guided tours. The interesting guided tours can only be done with advance booking and not alone without a guide! There are different guided tours for young and old to choose from.

However, it is advisable to make an online reservation in good time, which is also offered in English and German during the high season.

The Rio Vantone sports campsite is right opposite the fortress. From here you can get a fantastic view of the Rocca d’Anfo and take great photos. It’s worth it!
